Otaku Ookami 511 Report post Posted February 24, 2014 Just until you brought it up, Maron, I actually never thought about CMX's title being a problem. In terms of marketing, Viz was pretty dang smart about changing the title. It kind of annoyed me at first that they had changed the title (Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne still has a better ring to it than Phantom Thief Jeanne imo), but I'm getting used to it. I guess the biggest thing that concerns me about the change in the title is that the connection between the wind and Maron might be downplayed, and to me, that is a big deal. But then again, had they kept the title the same, it would be harder to sell. Best of luck getting your fiancé to read it. I finally got a friend of mine to read the first chapter or so of my copy, so I'm hoping that she likes it.
Maron Kusakabe 153 Report post Posted February 27, 2014 That is true about Maron's connection to the wind. I absolutely love that about the plot. I love re-reading the ending scenes about how she compares herself to the wind. It's quite beautiful in CMX's translation. And that scene where she cried when the wind blew and she knew that God was watching her but he could never physically help her. I LOVED THAT SCENE. You can't really take that out. hahaha. ONE MORE WEEK. I am dying with need for this copy. XD Odd since I have my other copies on my shelf. I want MORE.
Nekugirl103 217 Report post Posted February 27, 2014 I'm actually so excited for this, but also nervous about Viz translating it, I sort of wish Dark Horse was, because I adore their translations of manga. However, I am still so excited. I remember coming across KKJ in the second hand part of a book shop, and I picked it up and was all set to buy it. Thank god I flicked through it though because it was all in Polish. O_O So it will be nice to be able to buy the english version. I find CMX's so hard to come across. Otaku Ookami 511 Report post Posted March 2, 2014 I caved. :'D I bought the first volume for one reason: I want Arina to sign it. (Still gonna look through and compare, though…)
Maron Kusakabe 153 Report post Posted March 4, 2014 So guys... I read the first volume. I think the only MAJOR thing that upset me was that they TOOK OUT ALL THE SIDE PANELS / CHAPTER DISCUSSIONS from Arina. ALL of them are gone. ;_; It saddens me that people will never know Arina's favorite drawing in the chapter or why she did things a certain way.... Overall, it was interesting... Very different! There were some lines I thought sounded awful and some I thought sounded great. Maron does a lot of " "By the way, your next job is...." "Hell no." I wanted to SCREAM at Viz. Maron would never say hell in that context. >.> "The Demon Lord." .... You can't say Satan? Too much of a problem? XD That made me giggle. "I SAID BRUTES NOT FRUITS." HAahahahahaaaa. But they DO say "gratin" which made me happy. They changed "weak-spirited" to "timid" concerning Minazuki... It was a bit....meh. But I did like the Viz version of the scene after the kiss. The lines were much nicer~ Can I combine the versions? lol Let me know when you finish Otaku!!!
Otaku Ookami 511 Report post Posted March 5, 2014 I actually finished within oh… 20 minutes after I opened it up from its package? I am a little mad at Viz because they said (on twitter) colored inserts when in actuality, there was one, single color insert. I mean, the art in the back of Chiaki and Kaiki was nice, but not really what I'd call a bonus. I know this probably wasn't up to their discretion, but I really hate where they ended the volume, but that's probably because I thought where volume 1 ended had such a nice cliffhanger... YES, THE SIDE PANEL COMMENT THING… JUST NO. I actually didn't notice I HATED the "Demon Lord" thing. REALLY? If you don't want to say Satan, hey, the devil would be good, too, right? "Demon Lord" (giggling in the middle of class as I type it) just sounds so, so awkward... I actually laughed at the "hell no" simply because Maron just wouldn't say that (at least in my mind, right?). My favorite line? "They don't look like porn." (Maron referencing the books Chiaki is reading in the library.) No idea why, but I couldn't stop laughing. It was just so… I don't want to say random because it fits the situation that Maron suspects he's up to (re-reading it made me wonder how on earth one finds "indecent material" in a high school library and doesn't get caught with it...?) I don't even know where to begin. XD Oh, and the part where Access yells at Sinbad after he kisses Jeanne is pretty great, too-- mostly due to the emphasis on certain words and whatnot. :)
Maron Kusakabe 153 Report post Posted March 5, 2014 I didn't want to mention the porn thing. XD It was out of nowhere. Those were MEDICAL BOOKS, Maron!!! Jeez, girl!!!! I love the drawings of Chiaki and Kaiki but you're right. I want more color inserts!!! MORE!!!!! >
Otaku Ookami 511 Report post Posted March 5, 2014 Another phrase I really disliked: "Please remember how I feel about you." -snorts- I know at this point Chiaki's faking to get close to her, but can't you try to make him seem a little less obvious on that note? I re-read the first chapter, so I did notice the One good thing: The transformation phrase is so, so much better than CMX's-- that doesn't take much to beat, though. Otaku Ookami 511 Report post Posted March 23, 2014 http://www.nytimes.com/best-sellers-books/2014-03-23/manga/list.html Last week, Phantom Thief Jeanne hit number 7 on the New York Times Best Sellers list! I just checked this week, but it's not on the list. Still, it's good to see it's selling well. :)

Otaku Ookami 511 Report post Posted April 14, 2014 Wanted to add a few updates: Anime News Network appears to be a fan-- gave it a B+ over all. http://www.animenews...ief-jeanne/gn-1 Also, shojobeat tweeted that the 5th volume will have 3 NEW KKJ bonus stories. It'll be a bit of a wait until the last volume, but hopefully it'll be worth it.
